Recently, people across Canada came together in a unique and emotional musical experience.
Canadians said thank-you and good-bye to the iconic rock band, The Tragically Hip.
Many Canadians have enjoyed the unique Canadian sound of the band for many years. In fact, some people say the band plays “the soundtrack of Canada” and the “music that is in Canadians’ hearts.” Of course, not every Canadian enjoys the music of The Hip, as they’re known, but a great many do.
One of Canada’s largest cities is focussed on a pair of rodents. Two capybaras escaped last week from a small zoo in the city.
A capybara is a South American rodent—a pretty cute-looking one—but big. In fact, capybaras are the largest rodents and can weigh up to 200 pounds.
Many people across Canada are helping the residents of Fort McMurray.
There have been many stories of courage and compassion towards the city and the people who come from there.
On May 1, a wildfire started in a forest near the Alberta town of Fort McMurray. Within two days, the fire grew larger and the people who lived in Fort McMurray had to leave their homes.
Toronto had a special visitor last week. The United Kingdom’s Prince Henry of Wales — better known as Prince Harry — was in town to announce that Toronto will host the Invictus Games in 2017.
The Invictus Games are similar to the Olympics or the Paralympics, except that the competitors are all soldiers–most of them wounded from combat.
This week, news came out that some people have been avoiding paying their countries’ taxes. Even more surprising, some of the people accused are leaders of their countries.
The tax avoidance may not be illegal, but it doesn’t look good, to say the least.

Listeners of the popular Canadian morning radio show, Metro Morning on CBC Radio One, heard a new voice co-hosting the show last Friday with regular host Matt Galloway. Thirteen-year-old Clare Meurice won a contest to land the one-day hosting gig.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited Washington, DC recently. It was the first time a Canadian PM has paid an official visit to an American President in 20 years. It was an historic occasion.
Athletes are travelling to Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, this week. They are going there for an event held every two years: The Arctic Winter Games.
Last week, politicians and business leaders from around the world met in Switzerland to “improve the state of the world.” The meeting is called The World Economic Forum and it happens once a year.
